| PENYA DEL MIGDIA
Due to its privileged location the Penya del Migdia, a large cliff that rises up between the bays of Alcúdia and Pollença, became a privileged watch point to defend against raids and it was used since ancient times. |
In the early 17th century the threat of Turkish and North African pirates to the coast of Mallorca increased. As a consequence, several constructions were added to the natural defences and the site was equipped with artillery. |
As a result, the remains of the watch point consist of a defence structure with a single access protected by a small wall and a simple hut for the guards. The hut is covered by a dome and reinforced by a buttress. In addition, the site contains a kiln and a platform with a wall at the top. An iron cannon is placed on the wall. Below, a wall closes the only other access to the site. |
